Re: Trivia - 12/23/06 02:54 AM
I think it was Mr. Asbury...don't remember his first name...maybe Ray....I think he was at the Zavalla Drive Christmas parties as Santa, but it's been a VERY long time, so I may be really wrong...
It is not him. This man had has three girls that attended SP.He worked at a Printing company.
That's easy.
It was Joe Redmon
You would think that as many years Joe B. was Santa Claus that would be easy.I go to St. Paul's Methodist Church. Joe B. was a faithful member of St. Paul's, he and I kept the nursery during Sunday School and he sang in the choir. He played Santa Claus at my family Christmas Party for years. He even came out to my home in Nome and my kids were all so excited. Of course the ones that were small all cried.
What coach had the most wins? Basketball, Football,Volleyball,Golf,Tennis,Track,Baseball.

Re: Trivia - 12/28/06 02:28 AM
I don't know if he won the most games, but my dad, Bill Tipton, and his basketballteam won the State Championship in 1953 (same year as the movie Hoosiers). I think it's the only team state championship in South Park's history. He also coached football. He was fired by the school board a few years later because his football team didn't do well that year. You know Texas and football!!!! It turned out OK because Lamar University hired him and he finished his career coaching college football and tennis. A great man and a great coach.
Mary Ann Jobe has the winning record for Volleyball.
Not the only team state championship. SP won state in baseball in 1959.

Sorry, I didn't know about baseball in 59....as I said, Texas is FOOTBALL country. Who was the coach for the baseball team?
This list is not complete. But after talking with some "older" Greenies.I was told this Sparky Adams started the upper trend. He brougth Steve Mc Carthy aboard.Chink Manning was Basketball coach.Coach Anders was also a great Basketball Coach. Bill Tipton was Baseball coach. Cecil Donahoe was Track coach. James Manning was Golf Coach. Feel free to add any more. I am waiting on Coach Hentschel to give me more names.

Re: Trivia - 01/02/07 05:12 AM
Bill Tipton was football and basketball in the 50's....thus the state championship in basketball in 53. Back then there were very few coaches and they all coached all sports. In the 60's there was Fred Herring, Bill O'Neill, Adams, Davidson, Hentshcel, Donoho, Anders, Carl Dillon (tennis) Lois Blanchette (tennis),
Ty Bain was also head football coach in the 60's before moving up to assistant principal.Darrell Davis took over for Bain. Steve McCarty became head coach when Coach Davis went to San Antonio Roosevelt in 1973.
Coach Bain was the head football coach when I was a sophmore at SP.South Park had some great coaches some are deceased but there a lot still living. Here is another Trivia question can you name any of the principals and asst. principals? Dr. Jones was principal when I started SP in 1966. Mr. Floyd was asst. principal.
Coach Bain's first year at South Park was the '67 season. Coach McCarty came the same year as an assistant. Coach Bain, Coach Hentshcel and Coach McCarty were all great to play for and great role models.
I see Coach Hentschel all the time. We (SouthPark/Forest Park Lions Club) work concession stand all West Brook home games. Coach watches the game and you can tell he would like to be on the side lines calling the plays.
Can you remember any GREENIE(S) that won any state competitions.Scholastic or athletic.
Coach Hentschel gave me a list of Most Winning Coaches .Baseball - Chink Manning, Golf - James Manning, Girls - Tennis Mary Ann Jobe, Boys Tennis - John Nicklebur, Basketball - James Anders, Track - Cecil Donaho and Gayle Pruitt, Volleyball - Mary Ann Jobe, Football - Darrel Davis.
