Hey, folks -- well -- not to toot my own horn, but I just made my VERY FIRST VIDEO, EVER!

Here's the link -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAMfXpzlBGU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAMfXpzlBGU

I also took the liberty of adding it to the http://savesouthpark.org home page.

I called it "Keep History in the Future." I wonder if that wouldn't serve us as an additional slogan, maybe?

Anyway -- hope y'all like the video!

Sherry

Kinda' new here, and I don't mean to intrude, but would definitely 2nd that statement !
Is it true that pieces and parts of SPHS are actually being sold!?
I'm not believing that if it's true.
I realize it's a really radical ideal, but the thought of how a few of the castles in Europe were brought over here piece by piece and reassembled made me think possibly the same could be done with the building, but I guess I'm silly and dreaming.
Where would we rebuild it, and I guess it just wouldn't be the same as if it were at it's original location. [I grew up not 2 blocks from there !!!!!!!!!!!!].
Still, this is really hard to believe, regarding the demolition of such a historic and actually, a very elegant building.
I've often wondered who the architects were.
Wishing the best to all. If there's a way, we'll find it !!!!

Hi Falcontracker!

I've done a bit of research on South Park since I learned of the awful attempt to destroy her. The architect was Reuben Harrison Hunt (& Company...better known as R. H. Hunt). He was mostly self-taught and many of his beautiful buildings stand today, protected by inclusion on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Here are just a few examples of his work.

Alexandria Hall at Louisiana College: http://www.lacollege.edu/map/alexandria_hall.aspx

Temple B'nai Sholom in Huntsville, AL: http://www.templebnaisholom.org/

First Presbyterian Church, El Dorado, AR: http://www.goeldorado.com/root/downtown/...frE7Toq7bB7wF4g

First United Methodist Church, Dallas: http://www.dallasarchitecture.info/1stmethodist.htm

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium in Chattanooga (beautiful!): http://www.chattanooga.gov/PRAC/30_1018.htm

This article tells all about Mr. Hunt and his career: http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_102230.asp

Here is an article about the time capsule found in the renovation of Chattanooga City Hall. Fascinating!: http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-6700879/Treasures-unearthed-during-Chattanooga-City.html

Enjoy the links. smile

Warmly,
Debra

Thanks, folks. You're so kind. smile

Debra -- as always, great Google work! This is a fabulous idea for our savesouthpark site, a page about the architecture and architect.

Falcontracker, I'm so glad you brought it up!
