A celebration of the life of Achsah Stephens “Mike” Rouse will be observed at Broussard’s Mortuary, McFaddin Street, on Saturday, November 8, 2008, 2:00 PM. Mike was born on May 19, 1920 , in Kirbyville, Texas, the daughter of Grover Cleveland Stephens and Elma DuBose Stephens. She was Salutatorian of South Park High School, class of 1936. A war bride, she enjoyed 67 years of marriage to her husband, Robert J. “Rickey” Rouse, (SPHS ’35). This marriage was blessed with three sons, Robert (SPHS ’62), Mickey (SPHS ’65), and Jerry (SPHS ’69). She was employed for a number of years by the South Park Independent School District, where she was one of the area’s first Certified Professional Secretaries. She was subsequently employed by Mobil Oil in the purchasing department, where she retired in 1985. A lifelong fan of motor sports, she also was an avid birder and gardener. With her husband and life partner, in forty years of travel they drove every major highway in the United States. In addition to her husband and sons, she leaves daughter-in-laws, Kim Middleton Rouse, Darline Davis Rouse (SPHS ’65), Pam Spell Rouse, and Priscilla Parker Rouse. She will also be missed by grandchildren, Stephen Rouse of Houston, Caroline Rouse Myers of San Francisco, Robert “Trey” Rouse of Houston, and Mitchell Rouse of Houston. Preceded in death by her sister Gwendolyn “Pat” Stephens Saxe (SPHS ’28), she is further survived by sister Larue “Jack” Stephens Hollingsworth (SPHS ’43) of Temple, Texas, and a host of admiring nieces, nephews and friends.
